Helping Santa to help others...
Each year the five Rotary Clubs of Coventry and The Rotaract Club of Coventry
get together with volunteers to help Santa collect money for two main
Charities and for the Rotary Charities.
The two main charities for 2019 are
Coventry Myton Hospice & The Air Ambulance Service.
We are 1.2 million neighbors, friends, and
community leaders who come together to create
positive, lasting change in our communities and
around the world.
Our differing occupations, cultures, and countries
give us a unique perspective. Our shared passion
for service helps us accomplish the remarkable.
In 1979 the Bishop of Coventry set up a committee
to discuss the possibility of opening a hospice for
people in need of special care in the Warwickshire
and Coventry areas. An appeal for money was
launched. Funding came from many sources, as it
does now, including Rotarians, Lions, Round Tables,
and various other charitable organisations and
many individuals.
The Air Ambulance Service is a fantastic lifesaving
organisation with an incredible team of hard
working people behind it. We're continually striving
to develop our services so that we can continue to
save lives and alleviate sickness wherever and
whenever possible.
“We can make a living by what we get; but
we can make a life by what we give”
Winston Churchill
Below are other charities and groups that will
benefit from this years collection.
As chair of the Rotary Santa Sleigh organising committee I would like to explain a few
things about this years event. There has been such a severe drop in the
number of volunteers available to us that at one stage we had to consider
cancelling the Santa Sleigh. Our older volunteers are less able physically to assist
and our younger ones have more family commitments. However the Rotary Clubs
were so concerned about Coventry kids and charities missing out that
it was decided to go ahead but cover less routes. We did not take the decision
to cut routes lightly and have tried to cover as much of the city as possible. There will be
static events where parents from the areas we cannot cover can bring their
kids along to see and meet Santa. As always we will do our very best to keep people
informed of developments via social media but it will not be possible to respond to individual
messages or comments.
Over the years the Rotary Santa Sleigh collection has raised many thousands of pounds,
ALL of which goes to local charities. this includes both to those named on
the artwork at the end of the years campaign and furthermore those local charities and
causes helped throughout the year via the small share of donations received by each
of the rotary clubs.
We understand the disappointment this may have caused, but would like to take this
opportunity to thank the people in ALL areas of Coventry for their generosity and the
volunteers who have helped us by giving up their valuable time. We realise that
beyond it being a fundraiser, it's also a massive community event which is why we
review each area every year to try to reach as many areas as possible, this will happen
again for next year.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
